In Dream Drop Distance, Granger uses the histories embodied in karaoke and soul train lines to weave us a new possible future on the other side of disaster. Two custom karaoke booths and their playlists invite visitors to undertake impromptu duets with one another, opening themselves up to the indeterminacies of encounter. Reworked audio visual renditions of classic karaoke tracks ask participants to embody histories and lifeworlds outside of their own. Finally, the centerpiece science fiction film Before I Let Go, ponders the possibilities of life in the ruins of anti-black environmental extraction through the framework of a pseudo-documentary following a community’s recovery efforts 5 years after an attack from giant monsters.

The show’s title Dream Drop Distance refers to the 2012 roleplaying video game of the same name (Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance). Periodically, in the middle of play, the game players are made to switch between two different playable characters, forcing them to find some kind of rhythm between the two distinct playstyles and respond to the constantly shifting ground beneath their feet.
